Shashi is a
Partner with INDUSLAW and leads the Indirect Tax practice for the firm. Shashi
has over 12 years of litigation and advisory experience in tax and fiscal laws.
Shashi
has been well regarded for his experience in handling complex tax issues, both
in Court and as an Advisor to clients. He regularly appears before Tribunals,
High Courts across the Country and the Supreme Court. Over the years, he has
built a litigation and advisory practice focusing on tax and other fiscal
legislations like FEMA, Foreign Trade, Debt Recovery etc. and has a large
number of reported judgments to his credit both as lead counsel and as briefing
counsel.
Apart
from litigation, Shashi has also been involved with a variety of advisory
assignments including opinions on credit mechanisms, classification, tax
structuring exercises as part of building financial bids, realignment of
distribution chain, legality of various FTP policies etc.
Shashi
has handled clients across sectors such as telecommunications, airport
infrastructure, information technology companies, mobile phone
manufacturers/distributors, construction, FMCG, pharmaceuticals. Shashi has
also been on the forefront of anti-profiteering litigation and has regularly
handheld clients through the entire anti-profiteering investigation including
formulating pricing defences, non-profiteering positions, advice on key
strategies including constitutionality and legality of investigations and representation
services across forums.
Shashi
has been involved in industry level litigation, representing multiple clients
on key issues before the Court. These include the battery charger litigation
across multiple states, CVD refund related litigation at the Supreme Court and
various High Courts, CESTAT and also anti-profiteering challenges in Delhi High
Court and Bombay High Court.
Prior
to joining INDUSLAW, Shashi was a Director at PDS Legal, Delhi and before that,
he was associated with Economic Laws Practice.
